Starting Sunday, August 18, we will begin a new sermon series featuring the book "Solve: Finding God's Solutions in a World of Problems" by Rev. Talbot Davis.
The Beauty of Name Dropping
Setpember 15 - Rev. Vicki Harrison
This week's message (and chapter 5 in the book) is titled, "The Beauty of Name Dropping." We typically think of name dropping as a negative thing (and it can be!), but in Nehemiah 3, we see how Nehemiah's name dropping can teach us some important truths about our faith. Leaving your mark isn’t about what you accomplish. It’s about who you influence.
Oppositionists
Setpember 8 - Pastor Jamie Westlake
There's a spiritual truth that shows up a lot in God's Word: the more we seek God’s solutions, the more we can expect opposition. It should never surprise us, but it always does. Nehemiah models for us what it means to stay in the solution in the face of opposition.
Move on What moves you
Setpember 1 - Pastor Jamie Westlake
In week 1 we looked at how we often confuse our problems and our solutions. A lot of times what we identify as a problem is really just a bad solution we have chosen to attempt to deal with what the real problem is. Last week we looked at how Nehemiah moved from me to we and the people said, "Let's Do This!" and they began the good work God called them to complete. This Sunday we'll see a wicked problem that threatened to put an end to the efforts to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem. Nehemiah was angry at the injustice he saw being perpetrated by Jews against Jews. He moved on what moved him, and so we are called by God to do the same.
Let’s do this
August 25th - Pastor Jamie Westlake
In week 1 we looked at how we often confuse our problems and our solutions. A lot of times what we identify as a problem is really just a bad solution we have chosen to attempt to deal with what the real problem is. This Sunday we'll consider Nehemiah 2 with a message titled, "Let's Do This!" After so many years the exiles who did return to Jerusalem got used to living in ruins. They stopped seeing how bad things were. We get used to what is unacceptable, too. It becomes our new "normal," but God wants more for us. God wants us to follow Nehemiah's example to confront the unacceptable conditions in our lives to move toward transformation and healing.
Problemists
August 18th - Pastor Jamie Westlake
In week 1 we'll look at how we often confuse our problems and our solutions. A lot of times what we identify as a problem is really just a bad solution we have chosen to attempt to deal with what the real problem is, and we'll meet Nehemiah, who understood the problem wasn't the walls in Jerusalem needing to be rebuilt; rather the problem was his sin and need to repent. That had to come first or a new wall around Jerusalem would be irrelevant. And God never does something great through us until God does something significant in us.
