The Technical Art’s Department supports all the various ministries in the church with their audio, visual, and production needs. Volunteer positions are available on a regular, rotation, or as needed basis. Call or email us and let us know what your passions are, and I’m sure we’ll have a place that fits your schedule and your talents. And in all areas, experience is not a necessity.

Audio

The Audio team volunteers maintain and operate New Hope’s various sound systems. From mixing sound at Sunday morning services, to re-soldering cables and connectors, see what the Audio team has to offer!

Lighting

Lighting allows us to focus and enhance particular parts of the stage, and works with all other departments to enhance the mood of the service. Lighting Directors operate the level of the lights, and the Follow Spot Operator can help follow the action. Check out the fast growing lighting team!

Production/Pre-Production

Producers and Assistant Producers help design service elements, and ensure the different teams are coordinated in the service. They also help with following the critical “Cue Sheets,” so that all our volunteers and staff are on the same page. If you have strong administration gifts, this is your team!

Staging

With varied tools and props that Drama, Music and our Pastors require, how do we make sure the right things are in the right place at the right time? With our Stage team! Stage Managers and team members help set drama props and teaching aids on stage, as well as take them out of the way when they’re no longer needed. They can help reset the stage between services to maintain the proper atmosphere for worship. The Stage Manager also plays a critical role in communicating between the teams in the booth, and the teams on and around the stage. Let us know if you can help!

Video

Video is playing an increasing role in today’s complex services. This team is especially diverse, ranging from those who execute the cues at services, to those behind the camera finding those extra special moments. If you have a heart for shooting and editing videos let us know! We always have a demand for more interactive videos.

 

Volunteer Positions

In House Audio Engineer

The Audio engineer operates the audio console during services and rehearsals, assuring all are heard (or NOT heard) at the right time. Training is available, but experience is necessary for Sunday Morning Sanctuary Services.

Audio Assistant (“A2”)

The “A2” assists the Engineer at services which features an orchestra, or are otherwise more complicated. The sound board can feel a lot bigger when you have over 30 musicians and vocalists.

Broadcast Audio Engineer

The Broadcast Engineer assures that the proper levels are set for our Online Campus Worshippers, ensuring that the pastors sermon and reach even beyond the walls of the Sanctuary.

Lighting Director

The Lighting Director operates the lighting controls, setting levels for light on the various areas of the stage, and in the house.

Spot Operator

The Spot Light operator focuses the follow spots on small areas when they need special attention, or when lighting is not available from another source.

Stage Manager

The Stage Manager ensures that the right people and props are on stage at the right time. Drama and sermon props need to be placed on cue, and removed after. Between services, this is especially important because we want to ensure that the atmosphere is correct for the different services. This person also service as the communicator between the stage and booth.

Video Director

The Video Director cues and plays videos and DVDs, and “switches” them on the screen. Video Directors will direct camera operators and the CG Operator on what to shoot, or display, and when.

Computer Graphics (CG) Operator

The CG operator cues up song lyrics, sermon illustrations, and other graphics on cue. Timing is critical, but you’ll have a detailed Cue Sheet and director to help you through. 

Camera Operator

The camera operator helps to document and record services and events for evaluation and posterity, and future use. During services it is helpful when a camera person “finds a moment” that should be highlighted. With our Online Campus Worshippers, the more we can show them, the more they feel part of the service. If our need expands, we could see Camera Operators doing more “freelance” projects for other videos throughout the week. This position varies by ministry and location. From remote operating the sanctuary camera, to field recording, we have a need for all speeds and attitudes.

Video Editor

Requests from all ministries to have videos produced for their services is increasing. A volunteer Video Editor can contribute in a way that may not otherwise have been possible. Experience is a plus, but even novices can contribute.
