Praying while Running
Theme: Praying while Running
Verse: Ephesians 6:18
When do you pray? With as many distractions as we have in this world, stopping to have a conversation with God seems to be the hardest thing for us to do (although trying to have one with a teenager runs a close second).
Last week an awful lot of people stopped to pray when watching the incredible scene in Cincinnati in which one of the finest tuned athletes on the planet, a 24-year-old professional football player, lay motionless on the field of play while first responders worked to revive him. But for many, it is only in moments like that when we stop to pray.
What if we prayed at other times? Paul wrote to the Thessalonians encouraging them to PRAY WITHOUT CEASING. One interpretation of this is to have our minds on things of God and to be in constant communication with Him.
How can we do that? One of the best things to do is to Plan Time for Prayer. For me, I have prayer time while running or doing another exercise. That is fantastic for me as it usually catches me in the morning for an excellent way to start my day. I’ve noticed over the years that prayer and exercise have a lot in common. Both renew our minds and our hearts. Both have the tendency to reduce stress. And both require some level of intentionality to be effective.
This week’s challenge is to make time to be in communication with God. If that happens to be while running or exercising, that’s wonderful.
Have a great and prayerful week!
