Scripture- Mark 4:24-25- Then he added, “Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given- and you will receive even more. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.”
Observations- Here Jesus points out an important principle for all who would earnestly desire to follow Him with their whole heart, mind, soul, and strength...listen carefully to what it is He has to say. Being a "first class noticer" is an essential trait of one who apprentices themselves to Jesus Christ.
Application- When I'm paying very close attention to the meaning of my own discipleship, I'm far more likely to be getting better at following Jesus than in those times of my life when it's merely "on the list" as one priority among many others that may even be getting more attention. I know I always need to "pay close attention" to what I hear when it comes to being at being with Jesus.
Prayer- Lord, help me with this. I want to be a first class noticer of the way You are at work in this world. Thank You for Your love and grace that truly do go before me in all things, but I don't want to miss seeing all that You are up to because I'm distracted and not paying attention. Give me more understanding today. Amen.
"Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding." (Proverbs 2:2),
