Read Romans 5:1-11

ScriptureRomans 5:1, 8- Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us...But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

Observations- When we receive the free gift of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, God "imputes" His righteousness to us; that is, even though we aren't yet really holy and genuinely righteous, God chooses to see us in a new light and changes our standing before Him. He considers us righteous, even though we are far from righteous. This is called "justification" and then we enter into the process of living into the gift of God's righteousness by learning how to sin less, which is called "sanctification."

Application- What a privilege to know that God does something for us we can never do for ourselves! In our own ability and power we can never be good enough to enter into the presence of a righteous and holy God, but Jesus, our Advocate, intercedes with us and allows us to have peace with the Father. We get to live into the righteousness God has given us as a gift and this will require our cooperation with God over a lifetime. There will be stops and starts as well as obstacles and victories to celebrate along the way.

Prayer- Dear Lord, thank You for believing in me far more than I believe in myself. You have given me the gift of Your righteousness in Christ. You invite me to see myself through Your eyes of grace and mercy! Let me be holy in a way that will honor the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and make Him smile. Amen.

"So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6),
