Read Acts 23:23-24:27

ScriptureActs 24:25-26- As he reasoned with them about righteousness and self-control and the coming day of judgment, Felix became frightened. “Go away for now,” he replied. “When it is more convenient, I’ll call for you again.” He also hoped that Paul would bribe him, so he sent for him quite often and talked with him.

Observations- Felix clearly understood the implications of the Good News of Jesus Christ that Paul shared with him, for if it was all true, he knew his life would have to radically change. He feared, not that this message was the truth, but that he would lose his power, prestige, influence, wealth, and ability to get wealthier through ill-gotten gain. Felix considered it too high a price to pay in this life even if "Jesus is Lord" was true.

Application- The gift of salvation through Jesus Christ is always free, but it definitely calls us to all kinds of new and unexpected sacrifice. The day I stepped over the line of faith I knew the way I spoke had to radically change. This transformation occurred miraculously and immediately, but every other necessary change has required years of cooperation with God, stops and starts, and a lot of repentance. Make no mistake- considering God's call to righteousness, self-control, and the coming day of judgment is a frightening thing. It's even more frightening when we don't pay attention to what God says about it.

Prayer- God of love and righteousness, I know that You are the source of all that is good in my life. Any necessary change in my words, thoughts, and deeds has come through Your  inspiration and power. Help me to move from the life of sin to which I so often cling, into the new life of grace and forgiveness You offer me. You know what I need to get ready to spend eternity with You. Help live my life life here and now as a citizen of heaven. Thanks for Your many blessings and gifts, in Jesus' name. Amen.

"Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:8-9a),
