Scripture- Acts 22:6-7- “As I was on the road, approaching Damascus about noon, a very bright light from heaven suddenly shone down around me. I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’
Observations- Paul, after stirring up so much controversy, now had the opportunity to address the crowd and share how he came to have faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of his sins and the new life in Him. Paul's story is certainly a powerful, attention getting, and wildly unique witness to the way God grabbed hold of him and changed his life in a dramatic way.
Application- Few of us have as remarkable or dramatic story to tell about the way we came to trust in Christ as Paul, but that doesn't matter one bit. The fact is each one of us who has stepped across the line of faith and said "Yes!" to Jesus has a worthwhile story to tell. For instance, I was a churchgoing atheist (I went to hang out with my friends) who thought everything about Jesus was silly. My philosophy was "Life stinks, and then you die." I hadn't said the creeds or received communion for a couple of years, but one time during communion I heard a voice (not audible) say, "Jamie, this is for you." I said, "No, it's not." I heard the words again. I said, "Okay." I received the body and blood of Christ, and I immediately knew my life had changed. What's your story?
Prayer- Dear Lord, thank You for all of the many ways You find a way to get into our lives- sometimes dramatically, but not always. Help all people who trust in Christ consider their story and ask You for opportunities to share their story with others for Your glory. You are a God who brings new life and new hope! Thank You. Amen.
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8),
