Read Luke 23:32-49

ScriptureLuke 23:45- The light from the sun was gone. And suddenly, the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn down the middle.

Observations- As you look at the diagram above, one thing that becomes apparent is that there were defined areas where specific people could go or couldn't go. For instance, all who were seeking God were welcome in the Court of the Gentiles, but they had no further access to the Temple. Then there were specific areas for Jewish women, Jewish men, priests, and the high priest alone could enter the Holy of Holies behind this curtain only one time a year on the Day of Atonement. That is the curtain that was torn in two and tossed aside, which means we all have access to the throne of God's grace because of the atoning death of Jesus on the cross for us.

Application- It's amazing to think that all religious barriers to being in the presence of God were defeated on Good Friday. Through Jesus Christ we now have full access to the very presence of God, not on the basis of our religious position or on the basis of our good works, but on our position in Christ as one who has welcomed Him into our lives.

Prayer- Thank You, Lord, for not restricting me from a deeper, living relationship with You. Through Jesus You keep inviting me to come closer and go deeper in Your grace and truth, mercy and justice. Help me communicate to others the desire of Your heart for them to experience the torn curtain for Your glory and their transformation. Amen.

"So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most." (Hebrews 4:14-16),
