Read Matthew 27:1-10

ScriptureMatthew 27:1- Very early in the morning the leading priests and the elders of the people met again to lay plans for putting Jesus to death.

Observations- Where Peter had said he would stand up and be counted with Jesus no matter what it cost their were many religious leaders who were clear they were willing to do whatever it took to make sure Jesus died. As soon as Peter denied Jesus, he knew he'd messed up, but the religious leaders feel confident they were doing God's will to eliminate Jesus.

Application- The religious leaders play a cautionary role for us. They remind us that we can become so certain about what we think is right that we go off the rails in our own direction in our own power, which is why it is so important for us to honor the rails provided to us of a deep connection to God's Word and a living relationship with Jesus Christ. How will you honor that today?

Prayer- (by Thomas a Kempis- 1380-1471) Grant me, O Lord, to know what I ought to know, To love what I ought to love, To praise what delights thee most, To value what is precious in thy sight, To hate what is offensive to thee. Do not suffer me to judge according to the sight of my eyes, Nor to pass sentence according to the hearing of the ears of ignorant men; But to discern with a true judgment between things visible and spiritual, And above all, always to inquire what is the good pleasure of thy will. Amen.

"O Lord, listen to my cry; give me the discerning mind you promised." (Psalm 119:169),
