Read Deuteronomy 13

Scripture- Deuteronomy 13:4- Serve only the Lord your God and fear him alone. Obey His commands, listen to His voice, and cling to Him.
Observations- The ancient Hebrews were surrounded by, and even in the middle of,
nations and cultures that worshiped vastly different gods that often times required things like child sacrifice and fertility rituals designed to appease the gods. Moses was preparing the Israelites for the temptations he knew they would face. These temptations would come not only from foreigners, but they would also arise from within the community. There would always be many voices clamoring for their attention and even worship, but only one voice was worthy of their honor and praise.
Application- There are so many voices in our world that each day call out to us to deny our faith or not take it seriously. There are times for us to say with Martin Luther, “Here I stand; I can do no other!” Each of us can count on influences that would seek to draw us away from our first love- Jesus Christ. How will you be tempted today to set aside the values of your faith in Christ and commitment to serve Him? Will you “obey His commands, listen to His voice, and cling to Him” no matter what?
Prayer- Dear God, I’m so grateful for Who You are and for all the ways You communicate Your love and grace to me through Your Word. Come alongside us today and help us obey Your commands with joy and listen to Your voice in the midst of so many other voices seeking our attention and allegiance. Let us cling to You today. Amen.
"Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, 'My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.'” (2 Corinthians 12:8-9a),
