Read Genesis 9

Scripture- Genesis 9:65-6- And I will require the blood of anyone who takes another person’s life. If a wild animal kills a person, it must die. And anyone who murders a fellow human must die. If anyone takes a human life, that person’s life will also be taken by human hands. For God made human beings in his own image.

Observations- The point of this is the high value God places on human life. It is because each person is created in the very image of God that we are to honor one another by not taking the life of another person. The ancient Hebrews worshiped a God who declared not that human life was to be treated lightly, but that it was special, unique, and designed to honor God.

Application- Jesus took the value of human life as a gift from God so seriously that He moved to the next level with such teachings. For example, Jesus declared, "You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’ But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment!" (Matthew 5:21-22a) Are we able to see the image of God in every person we meet? This is huge challenge and aspiration as we seek to follow Jesus.

Prayer-Lord, thank for how fearfully and wonderfully each one of us is made! That I am created in Your image confronts me with all of the ways I fall short of honoring that reality and stand in constant need of Your grace and mercy. Today help me to see the people I come in contact with as special, unique, and created in Your very own image. Let this affect the choices I make and the way I treat the people You love so much. Amen.

"He came to this world and became a man in order to spread to other men the kind of life He has — by what I call "good infection." Every Christian is to become a little Christ. The whole purpose of becoming a Christian is simply nothing else.” (C. S. Lewis),
