Read Genesis 6

Scripture- Genesis 6:17-18- “Look! I am about to cover the earth with a flood that will destroy every living thing that breathes. Everything on earth will die. But I will confirm my covenant with you. So enter the boat—you and your wife and your sons and their wives.

Observations- Here we are introduced to Noah and his family. All of humanity has drifted far from God and God's pretty upset about it. The Lord was considering repenting of ever even creating those He had fashioned in His own image and declared very good.  God, however, doesn't give up on us, because he sees someone like Enoch who "walked in close fellowship with God." (Verse 9)

Application- As we read any story in the Bible, we have to keep the entire, wide scope of what God is up to from the beginning of Genesis through the end of Revelation in mind. It's a troubled love story featuring a covenant between the living God who is holy and gracious, righteous and merciful, just and loving and the people who all too often go their own way, run far from Him, and find themselves lost in a far country. Will we settle for being people who choose not to repent and turn to God or will we choose to be people "walk in close fellowship with God?"

Prayer- Lord, I want to be someone who runs toward the boat that You've told me build; that is, I want to follow Your directions, live in a way that honors You, and say "Yes!" to Jesus as my Friend and Advocate along the way. Left to my own devices I will go the wrong way, I will get lost, and I will need You to search me out in Your mercy. Help me turn quickly to You...always! Amen.

Jesus: “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” (Matthew 3:2),
