Read Genesis 5

Scripture- Genesis 5:21-24- When Enoch was 65 years old, he became the father of Methuselah. After the birth of Methuselah, Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for another 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters. Enoch lived 365 years, walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him.
Observations- The main point of Genesis 5 is simply to establish a family line from Adam to Noah, but Enoch gets special attention, because he "walked with God" and he went to be with God without dying. The only other character to experience something similar was Elijah. To "walk with God" means to make a relationship with God part of your everyday, walking around life and to honor God with your choices in every aspect of life.
Application- What a wonderful mystery that isn't fleshed out in the Word about Enoch! We do know what is most important and unique about him: "he walked with God," which should be our daily desire as well. In Genesis 3 Adam and Eve heard God walking in the Garden in the cool of the day, but they didn't get to enjoy "walking with Him" due to their disobedience. Let us seek to walk in close fellowship with the living God today!
Prayer-Lord, thank You for the example of Enoch, who walked faithfully with You throughout his life. We are grateful that Your Word puts flesh on the bones of what it means to walk with You each day as we go through life. Help us learn to appreciate taking a long, slow, joyfully obedient walk with You as we go through this day. Amen.
"As God said: 'I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.'" (2 Corinthians 6:16b),
