Scripture- Genesis 4:7- “You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, the watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.”
Observations- Cain and Abel were the sons of Adam and Eve. Cain was the oldest and then Abel. Cain was a farmer while Abel was a shepherd. The brothers brought their gifts to the Lord. Cain brought "some" of his crops while Abel brought his best sheep. The Lord was pleased with Abel and disappointed in Cain. Cain didn't take well to God's disappointment and God asks him why he is so angry. Then God says, "Cain, if you would just do the right thing life would be much better for you. Sin is always knocking at your door and it wants to control you but you must control it!" Unfortunately Cain allowed sin to control him as he ends up taking his own brother's life.
Application- The truth of the matter is that sin is still crouching at our door and it is still eager to control us. But the good news...no great news...is that because of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus we have freedom from sin when we invite Jesus to be our Lord and Savior. Galatians 5:1 says, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." In other words, sin has nothing on you!! So let us be aware of the sin that is lurking in our lives, remember that it has zero power over us and break free from it forever.
Prayer- Holy God thank you so much for loving us so much that you gave us Your one and only Son that all of us that believe in You would have life. Living our life for you gives us freedom over sin. May your Spirit make me aware of the sin lurking around in my life so that I might break free from it. Today I surrender my all to you and live in Your freedom. Amen.
"My chains are gone, I've been set free. My God, my Savior has ransomed me. And like a flood His mercy rains. Unending love, amazing grace." - Chris Tomlin
