Scripture- Genesis 30:15- But Leah angrily replied, “Wasn’t it enough that you stole my husband? Now will you steal my son’s mandrakes, too?” Rachel answered, “I will let Jacob sleep with you tonight if you give me some of the mandrakes.”
Observations- We must always remember that simply because a story is told in the Bible doesn't mean the God called for the behavior we see. There's no evidence God said polygamy was His plan and we see the level of rivalry and conflict it spawns among this family struggling to find their way to the fulfillment of God's promises. So often these people took matters into their own hands instead of waiting on God. they had much to learn on the way to the Promised Land.
Application- How do we see ourselves in these characters of the Bible? When have you been so impatient for God to show up and give you the clearest possible guidance on how best to move forward? When we wander off the right path, but God doesn't abandon His promises to us. We may suffer the natural consequences of our disobedience, but it's important for us to remember that just as there is nothing we can do that will make God love us any less there is nothing we can do that will make God love us anymore. God loves us...now we get to act like it!
Prayer- Lord, Help me to act justly...to show kindness and mercy...and to walk humbly with You every day. Amen.
