Scripture- Genesis 29:22-23- So Laban invited everyone in the neighborhood and prepared a wedding feast. But that night, when it was dark, Laban took Leah to Jacob, and he slept with her.
Observations- The trickster and liar, Jacob, has been tricked and lied to by Laban, his now father-in-law. All of this is a part of the refiner's fire that Jacob must go through to become the man God wants him to be and to learn patience. God wants him to be ready for all that He has in store for Jacob in the future.
Application- We must always consider the unique ways that God has of forming and shaping us as we more and more come to see ourselves as created in the very image of God. As we look back over our lives, we can see that some difficult and even painful experiences helped shape our character in god honoring ways. How have been and how are you now in the refiner's fire being perfected in love?
Prayer- Lord, thank You for shaping and forming me through all kinds of experiences, even the ones that were painful and difficult to go through at the time. You can use anything I got through for Your glory and my long term benefit. In Your grace and truth build my character and help me reflect Jesus more fully. Amen.
"We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation." (Romans 5:3-4),
