Scripture- 2 Chronicles 23:1- In the seventh year of Athaliah’s reign, Jehoiada the priest decided to act. He summoned his courage and made a pact with five army commanders: Azariah son of Jeroham, Ishmael son of Jehohanan, Azariah son of Obed, Maaseiah son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat son of Zicri.

Observations- Athaliah, an evil queen who encouraged and strongly supported the worship of Baal, wan't the rightful ruler of Judah. Jehoida sought out the right time to enlist the support of many other commanders and priests in having Joash installed as the rightful king. Jehoida also had a plan for enacting important reforms that would honor God.

Application- Timing matters for so many things. Some times we try to rush God along. Other times we are dragging our feet, even though God has been clear about what our next steps should be going forward. In Matthew 11 we find the image of being "yoked" to Jesus. I can pull too hard or drag our feet, but either way we'll just go around in circles. We get to walk with Jesus as He sets both the pace and the direction as we pull together, but rest assured- Jesus is carrying the us!

Prayer- (by John Baillie- ) O Holy Spirit of God, abide with me; inspire all my thoughts;
pervade my imagination; suggest all my decisions; order all my doings. Be with me in my silence and in my speech, in my haste and in my leisure, in company and in solitude, in the freshness of the morning and in the weariness of the evening; and give me grace at all times humbly to rejoice in your mysterious companionship, in Jesus' name. Amen.

"Then Jesus said, 'Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.'” (Matthew 11:28-30),
