Read 2 Chronicles 22

Scripture- 2 Chronicles 22:3-4- Ahaziah also followed the evil example of King Ahab’s family, for his mother encouraged him in doing wrong. He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, just as Ahab’s family had done. They even became his advisers after the death of his father, and they led him to ruin.

Observations- Ahaziah could have chosen the example of his not so long ago deceased grandfather, Jehoshaphat, who was an excellent king, but instead he chose as his example the evil King Ahab. He even chose to listen to Ahab's advisers much to he detriment and the continuing downfall of the southern kingdom.

Application- Hebrews 12:1-2a says, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith." These verses conjure up the image of those who have faithfully lived and died cheering us on in our race of faith in Jesus Christ. Ahaziah had Jehoshaphat ready to encourage him onward, but he made other choices. Who is cheering you on as you run the race of your life?

Prayer- O Lord, I give you thanks for the cloud of witnesses cheering me on as I seek to follow Jesus. I thank You for all those in the stadium cheering us on at New Hope to bring You honor and glory. Help us seek good examples and good advice on the journey of connecting more deeply with You and one another. Amen.
