Read Genesis 37

To read this text click HERE.

Scripture- Genesis 37:33- Their father recognized it immediately. “Yes,” he said, “it is my son’s robe. A wild animal must have eaten him. Joseph has clearly been torn to pieces!”

Observations- As Jacob ages we wonder if we are about to see a turnaround in the deceptive behavior that is his legacy, but we see a new generation of family dysfunction on full display as Joseph's brothers want to kill him and then sell him into slavery leaving their father to mourn in anguish at the supposed death of Joseph.

Application- Whenever you first read the story of Joseph and his family in Genesis 37-50, you had to wonder what God could possibly be up to in this story. How could this tragedy by for the glory of God or be used to point people to the living God? It's so important for us to remember some keys to the Book of Genesis along the journey: a) all of us are created in the image of God, but we distort that image through sin, b) we are blessed by God to be a blessing, c) God doesn't operate on our time schedule. These are keys that will help us unlock the glory of God in our lives everyday!

Prayer- Heavenly Father, in this fallen and messed up world I give You thanks and praise. Give me true hope in the midst of my disappointments and failures. Prepare me for the storms of life that are surely on their way. Remind me that I can accept my circumstances without liking them. Help me live in the light of an eternal perspective so that I trust You fully and even grow through adversity. Amen.

"Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory." (Romans 5:2),
