Scripture- Genesis 25:7-8 - Abraham lived for 175 years, and he died at a ripe old age, having lived a long and satisfying life. He breathed his last and joined his ancestors in death.
Observations- Genesis 25 tells the end of Abraham's story. In verses 7 and 8 we find that Abraham lived a good life and finished well at the age of 175. Abraham's life exemplifies what it means to live a life of faith. He trusted in God even when it didn't make any sense. He trusted God and as a result of that trust he lived a long and satisfying life.
Application- Our faith in God is a big deal and the results of a vibrant and growing faith like Abraham had is a long and satisfying life. Sure Abraham had his faults and his struggles but at the end of the day and at the end of his life he trusted God with his life and God took care of him in every season of his life - even in the end. It reminds me of the parable Jesus told in Matthew 25 of the three servants that were given money. The first servant had a good return for his master's money and his master said these words: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ (Matt 25:21) I am pretty sure this is how God greeted Abraham...Well done, good and faithful servant. How about you? How will God greet you when you step into the next life? I hope to hear these words from Matthew 25.
Prayer- Lord, thank You for great heroes of the faith like Abraham that show us how to live great lives of faith. Abraham gives us hope that if we will place our trust in You that You will take care of us. Lord, may I trust you in every area of my and in every season of my life. Amen.
