Scripture- Exodus 28:29- In this way, Aaron will carry the names of the tribes of Israel on the sacred chestpiece over his heart when he goes into the Holy Place. This will be a continual reminder that he represents the people when he comes before the Lord.
Observations- Here we many more specific instruction about what the priests were supposed to wear when on duty serving God and the people in the Tabernacle. Aaron, as a representative of all the people of Israel before God, would symbolically hold all of the names of the 12 tribes of Israel over his heart as a reminder of how important his role was for all of the people.
Application- You may not have a special medallion over your heart with the names of the people that matter the most to you, but it's a good question to reflect upon: who do you carry in your heart? What reminders do you surround yourself with to give thanks and bring to the throne of God's grace the people that matter most to you? Of course, everyone matters to God and He holds each one of us in His heart. Who else do you need to make room for in your heart with God's help?
Prayer- Jesus, thank You for holding me in Your heart. Thank You for holding the people of this church, this community, the church universal, and everyone and everything You have created for Your glory in Your heart. Help my heart grow today to include more and more people that You highly value and love. Amen.
