Read 1 Samuel 1

Scripture1 Samuel 1:27-28- "I asked the Lord to give me this boy, and he has granted my request. Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will belong to the Lord his whole life.” And they worshiped the Lord there.

Observations- Hannah was heartbroken that she hadn't been able to conceive and have a child. She cried out to God in her pain and made a commitment to God that if she was ever blessed with a child she would in her profound gratitude dedicate that child to the Lord. She remembered her prayer and commitment. She made good on her promise to God.

Application- One of the things that Hannah's commitment reminds me of is the fact that every child is to be "dedicated to the Lord," since no child is a "possession" of the parents. If children are truly gifts from God, then it's important for us to do everything we can to help them truly live into the reality of what it means to be fully "dedicated to the Lord." That is precisely what we do in household or infant baptism. The parents, sponsors, and church family come together to do whatever it takes to help little ones grow up to make a decision to follow Jesus for themselves. What a privilege!

Prayer- Lord, we thank You for the gift of children. Help us truly recognize that each child is precious in Your sight and in need of a life giving relationship with Jesus Christ as their "forever friend." I am grateful that New Hope gets to come alongside families to help them fulfill the baptismal vows they make. Help us be a church that takes this opportunity seriously and joyfully in Jesus' name and for His sake. Amen.

"Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, 'Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.'" (Luke 18:16),
