ScriptureJoshua 6:27 So the Lord was with Joshua, and his reputation spread throughout the land”

Observations- Some scholars have suggested that we should talk about a Hexateuch instead of a Pentateuch. In other words, instead of the first five, we should group the first six books of the Bible in one cohesive block, because what was promised to Abraham in the book of Genesis was fulfilled in the book of Joshua.

This section we read today “The fall of Jericho”, reflects a major milestone in the long and conflictual process of conquering the promised land. Jericho´s strategic location, together with its political and religious connotation, made it a crucial target in Joshua´s master plan. Jericho was the headquarters of idolatry and paganism, the distribution center of a culture of tolerance that practiced the sacrifice of children to their many “coexisting” gods.

Application- Our rational mentality still questions the fact that a group of displaced immigrants conquered an established city, known as the stronghold of the Canaanite feudal system. But moving away from all academic speculation, we don´t need to read between lines to learn how far God can go when it´s time to keep His promises.

The supernatural manifestation of the One and Living God is an unstoppable force that´s still available for all who believe His promises are true. Just like in the Canaanite society of Joshua´s time, when liberalism and paganism become a stablished culture, God raises spiritual leaders who believe that there is Power in the Name of Jesus to scatter the forces of darkness and establish His people, His kingdom.

Prayer- Dear Lord Jesus, help us not only pray, but also live in your Name. Amen!

Read: Joshua 3

To read this text click HERE.

Scripture- Joshua 3:8- "Give this command to the priests who carry the Ark of the Covenant: ‘When you reach the banks of the Jordan River, take a few steps into the river and stop there.’”

Observations- God gave specific instructions to Joshua about the strategy for moving all of the Israelites across the Jordan. It seems like an odd thing to put their trust in, but God did something similar in parting the Red Sea, so it wasn't completely unfamiliar territory. God, however, expected His people to participate in the miracle. Their cooperation was an expression of faith in God.

Application- God invites us to participate in what He is up to all around us. When the Bible talks about "waiting on the Lord," there is nothing passive about our posture of waiting. God is always inviting us to take our next step closer- whatever it is- in our living relationship with Jesus Christ. How is God asking you to participate more fully with Him?

Prayer- Lord, if You don't speak through me, it won't matter what I have to say. God, if You're not guiding my actions, what I do won't matter very much either. Help me take my next steps closer to You. I want to cooperate with You in a process of discovery and growth today. Help us be Your Church in this place at this time as we move toward Your great promises. Amen.

"Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth." (John 17:17-19),
